A Few Corrections and Thanks For The Support

Thank you for the introduction Matt Hoss, but a few things need to be corrected.  The bet was for $1,000, not $500, and this temple of a body I have is in no way pear shape.  I'm so glad it is not tax season and you had ample time to set this all up for me; it will give me something to think about while I'm running for hours on end.

The support from family and friends has been nothing short of amazing.  My best friends couldn't bet against me fast enough as they became visibly disappointed when I couldn't put up the $10K necessary to match all their bets.  Proposition bets between these "friends" have included, 'when will he stop and have a beer' and 'does he end up in the hospital or not', all while my always supportive mother offered these encouraging words, 'You aren't built to be a marathon runner'.  Can't tell you how gracious I am for your support, you guys mean the world to me.

At least when this is done I will be able to call myself a Colorado native.  I will blog, exercise excessively and plug the number of sunny days Colorado has in a given year (over 300!).  I'm not sure what is more shocking that I'm running a marathon in 17 weeks or that I am attempting to blog, but as long as there is interest I will keep it going.  Lord knows I have the time.

Training starts on Halloween...

How we got here: A brief trip down memory lane

It all started on my recent trip to Trinity University's alumni weekend in San Antonio, Tx.  We had just finished the first annual Trinity Baseball Golf Tournament at Silverhorn Golf Club put on by TAAG and were drinking some beers at a local watering hole when a friend proposed the following bet:  $500 if I could run a full marathon four months from now in under 5 hrs.  I debated for what seemed like hours to my friends before I finally decided I would accept.  So now it's time for me to trade in my vans, ollies, and shorts that sometimes get confused with jeans because they're so long, for some nike zooms, running shorts and mittens as I begin my trek towards 26.2 miles.  I hope you will follow me on my journey as I transform this pear shaped body into a lean(er), mean, marathon running machine.
